Upcoming Features & Updates

So it’s official, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition will be getting it’s first update ‘soon’, which will take the Xbox edition from the equivalent of PC Beta 1.6.6 to 1.7.3, after this there will be an even bigger update to 1.8.2 (known as the Adventure Update).

It’s unknown exactly when the update will be, but we expect sometime within the next couple of months they will release the first update. With a little luck we will have the Adventure Update by the end of summer 🙂

When OXM spoke to Roger Carpenter (the port developer from 4J Studios), he mentioned a lot of the difficulties with porting 1.8.2 (the Adventure Update) over to the Xbox Edition. Mainly due to the fact the this update is MASSIVE, so big it should probably be called mini-DLC. It’s not so much a new update as it is turning it into a whole new game.

One of the biggest additions being made (and probably one of the most frequently requested ones) is Creative mode, which if you didn’t know makes you invincible, able to fly and you have infinite of everything. It’s the ultimate mode for people that just want to build without fear of everything being blown up by a creeper.

4J Studios has some control over which features make it from the PC version to the Xbox Edition, but according to them they are working closely with Daniel Kaplan at Mojang to decide exactly which features will make the cut. 4J feels that “The game isn’t Minecraft on the Xbox, it is Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition”, meaning that it isn’t an exact port/copy of Minecraft PC.

So without further ado here are the expected features for Xbox updates 1.7.3 and 1.8.2.
